Four beats in the bar is where most charts begin—this page opens there

Musicians call it common time: four quarter-note beats in every bar, counted one-two-three-four with weight on the downbeat. Rock, pop, country, worship charts, school band parts, and a mountain of beginner material assume that layout. When notation says 4/4, you want the click to respect bar lines—not an endless row of identical ticks where beat three feels the same as beat one. This page loads in four-four with the first beat accented so measure one is obvious from the downbeat. The mistake in four-four is rarely forgetting that there are four beats. It is losing track of which beat you are on when the chord flips on the and-of-two, the fill starts on three, or the vocal line breathes after four. We drew a pyramid case with a pendulum rod and a sliding weight—the same parts you read on hardware. A lamp lights for each quarter as the bar walks forward; you see the measure instead of inferring it from sound alone. That helps in a noisy room, when teaching across a classroom, or when your ears glaze over after ten minutes of the same click.

Sound leads; the swing follows the audio clock, not a decorative loop. Pause and drag the weight to change tempo. Leave accent on beat one while learning a part; turn it off when every quarter should carry equal weight. Feeling chord changes on bar lines, not beat numbers

New players often confuse “change on two” with “change on bar two.” A lamp cycle shows where the measure turns; accent on one shows the front door of each bar. Strum once per beat with downbeats on one and three, ups on two and four—the lights confirm which stroke belongs where without you chanting in your head forever.

Speak one-two-three-four for a few bars while watching the lights. Then play silently and check whether your chord change still lands as lamp one returns. Rushing into the next measure is the classic 4/4 guitar and keys slip; the cycle shows it before you record.
